Friday night Emergency Room was absolutely a horrible experience. I have been going to the university with either myself or friend or either family members since 1977 and I have never seen such chaos and disorganization ever before. The staff at the triage reception area were completely ineffective! People were not being processed or taken care of. A woman was crying and vomiting during the entire three hours I was waiting there with no attention from staff . No updates. i mmm I had an emergency event which was time sensitive and was sent over by Dr. Xu’s office because I am scheduled for surgery in a week. I had a potential testes torsion which requires a timely exam and treatment. I was left sitting without exam or treatment for three hours. I was told that I needed to be examined and when I asked the staff they had no feedback as to when I would be even potentially seen , Because of potential critical timeframes I asked if I should check into going to Boone instead and I was told that they couldn’t advise me on that . I waited until a medical professional I knew advised me to leave and seek treatment elsewhere or risk potential damage if I had a strangulated organ. I informed the staff of my need to seek treatment elsewhere and they asked me to sigh a paper that I was leaving against medical advice. If I had heeded that I would have had to continue waiting for an unknown time to my detriment. I can tell you that from my observation absolutely no care or attention was being provided to the large number of persons waiting in the area and the woman crying and constantly vomiting for the entire three hours was shockingly neglectful. After witnessing this I hope that I never will be exposed to this again. I understand the nature of emergency care but this was different that anything I had ever seen at the University before . The sheer lack of care and competence in my opinion of the triage staff last night in the Energrnce room is substandard and does a disservice to the reputation of the University hospital system that I knew and have appreciated over my lifetime of visits, I was immediately seen at Boone hospital where I have had no prior surgery or medical care. I am having surgery done this morning at Boone for my hernia condition that was not looked at at the University yesterday and I am sorry that I was not treated timely when I really needed it. I fully believe that my effort to give you this feedback will be ignored but you need to know from your customers when you have a process or employees who are not maintaining the high standards of care that the University Hospital system has been known for. The emergency room system and protocols and care and treatment are deeply flawed at this time and I hope that someone in administration will look into it. I noticed in my visit notes it says that I eloped and I want that removed. For my own safety and health I HAD to leave and aI discussed it with them and explained that I had a critical timeframe to address a potential strangulation of my organs due to the inguinal hernia. Please help me to remove that negative comment in my medical record because that is not true and to have stayed on wasting valuable and critical time would have been counter to my health as is evidenced by my surgery schedule there at Boone this morning. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
