What is a MSDE certification?

The portal is for the use of educators who hold or wish to hold a Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) educator certification. For other general inquiries about credentialing, please refer to the MSDE Certification home page.

How do I view my Maryland teaching certificate?

You can always check your status by visiting the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) website and then search in the middle column under the Educator Certification section for what applies to you. Contact Alice Blackstone or Kelly Meadows at 410.767. 0406 with any questions you may have.

How do I renew my teaching certificate in Maryland?

You must complete six hours of CPD every five years to renew your teaching certificate. School systems will offer CPD courses to teachers through their CPD liaison. You will be assigned a renewal month, either January or July. Your teaching certificate would then be renewed in January or July of every fifth year.

What are ancillary credits?

Ancillary credits reflect whether or not you have a 3 credit special education course (all specialist and administrators need special education). The number of reading credits you have are also reflecting here.
